It's a...

As I mentioned in our last installment, we're trying something different with Number Two.

We didn't know Lucy was Lucy (and not Jack) until we went into the OR. This time, curiosity has gotten the better of us and we've decided to peek a few months early. Of course we could find out during our latest ultrasound like everyone else, but that's not our style. Jenny had a better idea.

The plan was to have the ultrasound tech write the gender on a card and seal it in an envelope. I would then whisk the note away to our friend Curi Ahrens, who is an excellent cook, baker and secret-keeper. Curi would then bake a cake with a pink or blue center to indicate the gender.

We had a party the next day to cut the cake in front of our family and friends. Curi didn't dissapoint, as she delivered a delicious ice cream Oreo-style gender cake to our house. She didn't even spill the beans while everyone was socializing!

My mother had the idea to separate the congregation into a boy side and a girl side. After a short speech (the gender was melting), Jenny and I did the honors.

And the survey says...

Woo hoo! So long princess movies...hello Boy Scouts, fart jokes and peeing on the floor!! We're having a little boy!

Lucy was generally excited with the whole affair, but I think it's because she got to stay up late and eat extra dessert.

All in all it was a wonderful memory and I'm so happy that we found out.

P.S. Yes, the cake was absolutely delicious.
P.S.S. This boy's name won't be Jack.
