Conway Baby Name Challenge Part 1: Girl Names
Somewhere in western NC there's a sister screaming,"Nooooooo!!!"...
If you've read the other posts in this blog you've probably noticed that our friends and family are an opinionated bunch. Jenny and I welcome the input, and we've enjoyed reading your thoughts on our baby-related issues. Joannie has strongly counseled me to keep this stuff to myself, but Jenny and I want to hear a few suggestions.
That's why we're launching this first round of the "Suggest some names for our baby" Sweepstakes. Of course Jenny and I have a good list of names for both sexes. We just don't want to pass up a good name because we weren't creative enough to think of anything else.
My favorite baby-name story involves Jenny's brother and sister-in-law. They knew they were having a girl, and both had picked the name Meredith for the new arrival. Imagine their surprise when their little girl ended up being a little boy! Shocked and a little unprepared, they found themselves having to come up with a name for their new arrival. The nurse said "He looks like a Grant", and that's how Jenny's nephew was named. It's a darn good name, too.
So what do you think? Drop your suggestions in the comment box. Here are the rules:
- Jenny and I aren't famous, so we can't quite pull off "Pilot Inspektor Conway". Keep that in mind...
- Bonus points for adding a middle name.
- Bonus points for a short blurb on why you like the name.
- Jenny and I will name our kiddie whatever we want. Like I said before, this is a pregnancy, not a democracy.
- Don't criticize other people's names. That's not nice, and I won't publish your suggestion if you do.
- Whoever actually suggests a name we end up using gets the lifetime pride of having helped name our child. We're OK with that!
I love the name Danica (Jenny doesn't) because it's a strong name, but still feminine. Also because Danica Patrick is an awesome race car driver. So let's hear it! Suggest a couple of girl names, if you dare...
I also don't like it because the only Danica anyone knows is a famous race car driver and it's obvious where I got the name from. Danica also has a hard "c" sound at the end which sounds a little awkward when you say "Danica Conway".
P.S. - Here are two awesome sources of inspiration:
- Social Security baby name census
- The Baby Name Voyager (I love this site!)

You better believe I'm screaming! Don't say I didn't warn you. Yaya's probably already composed a list and was just waiting for permission to submit it.
I don't have any suggestions for names (except don't use Madeline b/c that's our girl's name). I just wanted to add that Matt's grandaddy (who is last of 12) was named by his oldest sister's husband. Cool, huh?
Ok, since you asked...
I love Miriam
The Virgin Mary's real name was Miriam (Jewish girl)
If you divide the name...
MIR (meaning peace in Croatia)then I _AM = "Peace I am"
Also....
Isabella
Olivia
Michaela
Meg (Margaret Mary)
Mia Eliza
Lucia Elizabeth
Nicole
Suzanna
Gabriella
Natalie
Kaylee
Thanks, Mom. It's funny to me that you named your two kids such vanilla names, and now you're suggesting names with so much color!
I guess that's how times change! (Actually William has been in the top 50 FOREVER)
I have loved the idea if you used Royer as part of the the name for a boy.
Joseph Royer Conway
Noah Royer Conway
Andrew ...
or
Royer "Peanut" Conway (my personal favorite)
To many options. So many names go with Conway. Its so workable. not like Fenton.
Love
Aunt Jolynn
Johanna suggested the following ideas
Boy:
Jake Austin
Girl:
Annie Leigh
Ok, wait a second Joannie... it's "cool" that Matt's grandfather was named by someone else, but we shouldn't ask for suggestions?
Personally I don't mind if people make suggestions - it provides ideas we may not have thought of. The key word is "suggestion" - it's not permission to name our baby. Despite liking of lot of names, I wouldn't use many of them for my child. I'm very particular when it comes to my child's name, especially if it's a boy.
BTW....
That was just my list of girl's names. I am waiting for permission to give my opinion on boy's names...
I love Joseph Royer Conway though!!! But that's for the next post!!
I also forgot to add JODIE. I would have named a second daughter that, as Jody was daddy's nickname. So I thought Jodie would be cute!
PS. Danica was also "Winnie's (from The Wonder Years), real name.
She turned out to be a GREAT math whiz in her adult life.
OK... I think I might be done!!
My bible study clued me in to the wonder years trivia last night. I didn't know that...
It's funny Jolynn how everyone thinks the last name they have to work with is so unworkable. I thought Newsome was hard to match and William thought Conway was hard.
Jenny, don't be a poo-poo head! :) It's cool b/c of the size of the family and span of ages. Perhaps funny would have been a better word.
Are you going to solicit boys names next?
Yeah, I think Conway is impossible to pair names with and Newsome is much easier. I guess the grass is always greener...
Yes, part 2 will be boy names. Start thinking...
Why not go with the celebrity-combo-name method? Which would create:
Jilliam
or
Winnifer
Funny enough, those are fairly similar to real girl names:
Jillian
*Famous Jillian's include Jillian Anderson who played Dana Scully on "The X-Files."
or
Winnefred
*Famous TV Winnefred's include that girl from "The Wonder Years" or a really cool chick from the show "Angel" if you were into that, which if you like sci-fi/comedy, you should have been.
Wow... two sci-fi character references, I sound like such a nerd.
Hi William and Jenny! I love this stuff so here goes....
Girl names:
*Caroline Elizabeth
*Hannah Abigail or Abbigail Hannah..Abbie for short.
*Evelyn Louise and calling her Evie
Boy names:
*Thomas William
*Jackson Royer (I think that middle name does sounds cool..someone else suggested it)
*Matthew Alexander
Yes they are long and some are outdated..its just me and the names I have liked.
Good luck with everything...its a cool but nerve racking job we as parents have in naming our kids!! :)
Mary, Mary, quite contrary... You should have been part of the family!!!!!!
Because....
Girl names:
*Caroline Elizabeth (already have a cousin named Carolynn)
*Hannah Abigail or Abigail Hannah..Abbie for short. (niece Abigail)
*Evelyn Louise and calling her Evie (second cousin will be named Eva)
Boy names:
*Thomas William (I prefer Joseph Thomas or Thomas Joseph -grandpa names)
*Jackson Royer we need to save that one for Aunt Lisa, cute name!!!
*Matthew Alexander Matthew is also taken by the baby's uncle.
I think Royer is a cute middle name......
Wow, soo many choices!! We need more babies!!!
No, I am not starting anything William!!
Ok, ok, so I'm late on this one ...
A little history first ... I married a lady with a neat name - Carmel, as in Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She's the only one of her siblings to get what I consider a neat name, all the rest are generic, kinda like me. So, we did a neat thing for our daughter, nice first name and mom's name as the middle name ... my submission is:
Christina Jennifer
WILLIAM JOSEPH CONWAY
WILLIAM CAESAR CONWAY
ISABELLA CHRISTINA CONWAY
CELESTE MARIE CONWAY
WILLIAM HAS GOT TO BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL NAME THERE IS.
ROYAL, REGAL, ..... YOU NAME IT
I bet Ana was the one that wrote the last one!!!
Ana, forget the "William." William should be reserved for the grandkids to use!
(In case my opinion is still wanted!). LOL.
What about
Lovie Anne, (had a sweet girl in the class with that name)
Rebecca Lynn
Kathryn Margaret is popular! ;)
Kathryn Ilene
Margo Kaylene
Margie Kay
(I'm sure you know the source of these fabulous concoctions... our dear sweet mother)
I can't help myself if you chose the name Peanut after both grandmas... The all time classic
Kay Marta!
Where did you think I got my name?
Peanut and I would have an instant bond.
Love,
Aunt Jolynn
I think having Royer as a middle name if it is a boy sounds awesome. I am finished having those babies, so I don't need any names saved for me. Jackson Royer Conway has a nice ring.
